The story of Louro Wines begins in 1951, when it was founded by the maternal grandparents of João Louro Passos, José and Josefa, at a time when traditional commerce played a central role in the social and economic life of the city. From its very inception, the house established itself not merely as a retail space, but as a place of gathering and cultural continuity, rooted in values of proximity, trust, and knowledge passed down through generations. This identity, shaped over decades, reflects a profound connection to the territory and its customs, consolidating its presence as a landmark in the historic centre of Évora. In time, the continuity of the business was entrusted to his father, Colonel Passos, who preserved the shop’s traditional character and its close relationship with the local community. From the outset, the house distinguished itself through its offering of tobacco products, regional goods, and wines, reflecting the habits and culture of the period.

In 2004, under the management of João Louro Passos, a new chapter began. While maintaining deep respect for its family heritage, the shop evolved into a specialised wine merchant, with a carefully curated selection focused on authenticity and the expression of terroir, with particular emphasis on the Alentejo region. At the same time, the tobacco segment was further developed, with a dedicated focus on premium cigars and cigarillos, notably Habanos, in a commitment to quality and excellence that defines Louro Wines’ positioning today.

Today, more than a shop, Louro Wines is a space for discovery and experience.
